Them Crooked Vultures

“The last word on supergroups resides with Neil Young, who was a member of what was perhaps the first of the genre and made this well placed comment “They had the best selection/They were poisoned with protection” while singins Thrasher, a song in which he reflects on his departure from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, which by 1974 had come to epitomize the cocaine-blinded empty shell of the hippy dream, ‘There was nothing that they needed/Nothing left to find….’ Having left his ‘deadweight colleagues, Young ominously notes ‘the vulture glides descending…’” – Filter
Dave Grohl on drums!  Josh Homme on guitar!  John Paul Jones (yea, from Led Zeppelin) on bass!!  Supergroup of the year for sure.  Grohl and Homme reunite nine years after making one of the best rock albums of the past decade (Queens of the Stoneage’s Songs for the Deaf) and add the bass play from one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Jones.  Now being a bassist I am always partial to the rhythm section.  Think about this one – Grohl and Jones.  They drive this album with force and fury.  Homme sings most of the songs and his voice brings an overall eerie feeling to everything.
The album is out now and the band is touring Europe.  Let’s hope they return here sometime soon.
